Melanie Flores
Writer and Poet
Melanie Flores is a Canadian writer and poet whose work has appeared in numerous anthologies and literary journals. She has won awards for her poetry and short prose, including 3rd place in the 2023 Dr. William Henry Drummond Poetry Contest for "Daddy's Hands", and 1st place in Polar Expressions 2020 Short Prose Contest for "Dandelion Smiles". Her work has been described as moving and provocative. Melanie is a member of the League of Canadian Poets, The Ontario Poetry Society, and The Writers' Union of Canada. Story of Melanie Flores
Background Story
Introduced to poetry in kindergarten, she quickly became the school poetry reciter at her Canadian/Ukrainian elementary school. After a lengthy career as an Advertising Sales Manager in business publishing, Melanie moved on to focus on her own writing, producing over a hundred pieces (poems, short stories, novella) over several years. Melanie has also worked as an editor/proofreader/reader and audiobook narrator. She has ghostwritten several memoirs while freelancing for Story Terrace.
